General information

Anesthesiology is a branch of medicine dealing with pain management. She develops, studies, presents and applies the methods of analgesia, muscle relaxation, change in consciousness and suppression of unwanted effects, in order to perform various diagnostic and treatment procedures. The term "anesthesia" is of Greek origin and means lack of sensation, accordingly, anesthesiology is the science that studies and applies anesthesia.

The anesthesiologist is the doctor who stabilizes the vital functions of the patient by means of medication, invasive techniques - provision of breathing apparatus, venous and arterial access, heart massage and others. He assesses the degree of care that should be given to the patient, monitoring the patient's condition until he is fully stabilized.

The anesthesiologist carries out the preoperative preparation of all patients. He familiarizes himself with the type of operation and the technique of its performance in order to assess the type, degree and duration of the anesthesia. In the case of planned operations, he familiarizes the patient or his relatives with the entire volume of information - including the risks of the operation and the contraindications of the medications.

Intensive care is that part of medicine that covers the critical episodes in the course of any disease, in which there is a real danger of sudden deterioration or death.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care aims to provide twenty-four hours of fail-safe, high-quality, specialized, consultative, outpatient and inpatient, planned and emergency medical activity performed by specialists in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.

All modern types of anesthesia are applied at Vita Hospital: general intubation (inhalation), venous (short-term, long-term), regional anesthesia (epidural, spinal) and analgesia during childbirth.

For perioperative (during and after surgery) analgesia in major surgeries, a team of anesthesiologists perform high-tech and patient-safe ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks. This provides long-lasting analgesia in the early postoperative period, which is essential for wound healing, a mild recovery process, and overall patient comfort. If necessary, this anesthesia can be carried out for quite a long time through a previously placed catheter for blockade through a special device that the operated person carries with him for some time.

The Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department of VITA Hospital has modern equipment manufactured by globally recognized companies, as well as some of the best specialists in this field. All this provides you with the best and safest treatment for every manipulation and medical intervention.
